Welche Outlook Version für Exchange Online?

The December security and rollup update has been made available for all Click-to-Run installations of Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2021 and Outlook as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription.

It contains 11 security updates for OneNote (1), Visio (3) and Office (7).

In addition, it contains 1 documented non-security fix related to Outlook Monthly Enterprise Version 2210, 4 fixes for Semi-Annual Preview Version 2208, and 2 fixes for Semi-Annual Version 2202.

• Version 2210
  • We fixed an issue that caused emails to get stuck in the outbox for some profiles with multiple Exchange accounts configured.
• Version 2208
  • We fixed an issue that was causing users to see multiple copies of a shared calendar rendered in certain circumstances.
  • Resolved an issue where Outlook would close unexpectedly when clicking on certain email messages with Word document attachments and the reading pane is set to “Right”.
• Version 2208 and Version 2202
  • We defined a Registry key that when set fixes an issue that prevented messages from being sent when Outlook is running with multiple Exchange accounts and at least one of them is in Online mode (as opposed to cached mode.)

    • Value Name: UseInclusiveGlobalOfflineCapabilities
    • Value type: REG_DWORD
    • Value (Default): 0
    • Value 1 = Adjusts the Global Offline Capabilities for profiles with Exchange accounts, so that they are less restrictively aggregated/computed.
  • We fixed an issue that caused users to see copies of all of their sent items appearing in their Outbox folder.

Note: Depending on your installation type, this update can be installed via the Update Now button in Outlook or the Microsoft Store and updates Outlook to: Version 2208 (Build 15601.20088).

Der Grund für diesen Ausschluss liegt darin, dass Microsoft die Kommunikation sicherer machen möchte. Dazu werden einige Änderungen erforderlich, was zu Problemen mit den älteren Outlook-Funktionen führt. Ältere Versionen von Outlook wie Outlook 2007 und 2010 sind mit den folgenden bevorstehenden Dienständerungen nicht kompatibel, und werden daher gesperrt.

• Die Unterstützung der Basisauthentifizierung wird beendet (siehe auch meinen Beitrag Exchange Online: Abschaltung Basic Authentication in 2021). Um die Sicherheit von Microsoft 365 zu erhöhen, werden moderne Authentifizierungsprotokolle verwendet.
• Microsoft arbeitet daran, Unterstützung für HTTP/2 in Microsoft 365 hinzuzufügen. HTTP/2 ist ein Vollduplex-Protokoll, das die Latenzzeit durch Header-Komprimierung und Request-Multiplexing verringert. Auf der Dienstseite wird Microsoft in der Lage sein, Anfragen besser zu priorisieren und Daten effektiver an Clients zu übertragen.

Anhand der Nutzungsdaten konnte Microsoft sehen, dass die Anzahl der alten Outlook-Versionen an den Anfragen stark zurückgegangen ist. Microsoft ist bewusst, dass einige Kunden die alten Outlook-Versionen nicht einfach nicht aufgeben können. Das Kunden-Support-Team von Microsoft wendet sich daher aktiv an die Tenants, die Outlook 2007 und 2010 am meisten nutzen. Diese Nutzer sollen auf neuere, unterstützte Versionen umgestellt werden. Generell hält Microsoft die Nutzer an, auf folgende Versionen zu aktualisieren:

• Office 2013: Wechsel zu Version 15.0.4971.1000 von Office 2013 (Service Pack 1 mit dem Update vom Oktober 2017)
• Office 2016: Wechsel zu Version 16.0.4600.1000 von Office 2016 (mit dem Update vom November 2017, KB 4051890)

Für Office 2007 und 2010 ist also nur ein Upgrade auf die obigen Microsoft Office-Versionen oder auf Office 2019 möglich, um weiterhin Office 365/Microsoft 365-Dienste aus Outlook verwenden zu können. (via)

Many people are sill using older versions of Microsoft Outlook that they may not realize are no longer supported by Microsoft, and therefore are unable to connect to Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online.

As support is dropped for older versions of Outlook, you may begin to encounter issues.

Unfortunately, if it’s unsupported by the original manufacturer then Conetix is unable to provide technical assistance for the product.

A list of the currently supported versions of Outlook (as of November 1, 2021) are as follows;

• Outlook 365 – (Minimum Version 1706 or newer)
• Outlook 2021 – (Supported until October 2026)
• Outlook 2019 – (Supported until October 2023)
• Outlook 2016 (Windows only – Minimum Version 16.0.4600.1000 or newer) – (Supported until October 2023)

For the time being, Outlook 2013 (with Service Pack 1 – Version 15.0.4971.1000 or newer) can theoretically still connect to Microsoft 365 services, however it is not technically supported by Microsoft and therefore not supported by Conetix.

From November 1, 2021 onwards, Microsoft has blocked access to Microsoft 365 services from versions of Outlook not listed above.
If you are still using an unsupported version of Outlook, you will not be able to access your emails hosted within Microsoft 365.

Using an outdated version of Outlook is not supported by Microsoft nor Conetix, and as such Conetix cannot provide technical assistance for using such applications.

To ensure you are running the latest and most supported version of Outlook, Conetix recommends using the Microsoft 365 software suite.
