In the U.S. several ethnic groups are often lumped together into more inclusive "pan-ethnic groups" based on the region of the world that they come from. For example - African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, European Americans, etc. The African American population has become more diverse in recent years with immigration from countries like Haiti, Jamaica, Somalia, Nigeria, etc. becoming a more culturally diverse pan-ethnic category than in the past. This occurs when one group establishes dominance over others through conquest. Example: British, French, Spanish, Dutch, Belgians, and Portuguese conquered people in Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, and South America. 13% of the U.S. population is African American The ancestors of the majority of African Americans were brought to the American colonies as slaves during the 1600-1700's. Today 9% of the Black population is made up of immigrants. The majority immigrated from countries in the Caribbean while others immigrated from countries in Africa. Largest Caribbean Immigrant Groups come from -Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, Bahamas, and Dominica.
