Using principles of training as a framework, we can plan a personal training program that uses scientific principles to improve performance, skill, game ability, and physical fitness.

A great training program will cater to the needs of each individual; personal fitness must take into account our age, gender, level of fitness, and the sport we are preparing for. Exercise in the appropriate heart-rate goal zone is another component of a good training program.


The fundamental 8 principles of training when planning a program are:

  • Specificity – training must match the sporting activity’s needs to improve fitness in the body parts the sport uses.
  • Overload – and can only improve fitness by training more than you usually do. It would help if you worked hard.
  • Progression – start slowly and gradually increase the amount of exercise and keep overloading.
  • Reversibility – any adaptation that occurs due to training will be reversed when you stop the activity. For example, if you take a break or don’t train often enough, you will lose fitness.

In planning a program, use the FITT principles of training to add the detail:

  • Frequency – decide how often to train.
  • Intensity – choose how hard to train.
  • Time – decide for how long to prepare.
  • Type – determine which methods of training to use.

It would help if you also considered the principle of moderation. At the same time, it is important to have rest periods that allow the body to adapt. Too much training (overtraining) can lead to injury.

2. 8 Principles of Training Adaptation

pag naging madali na sa isang atleta ang isang training program o nahihigitan na nya ito, masasabi nating nasanay na sya o nag-adapt na sya sa training program na ginawa ng kanyang coach. Mangyayari lamang ito kung may sapat na pahinga sa pagitan ng kanyang pageensayo.

Pag lumabis ang pagsasanay o kaya kaagad itong dinamihan ng walang sapat na panahon para makapahinga ang atleta, ito ang nagdudulot ng overtraining na isang sanhi ng pagkakaroon ng injury. Masama rin naman na kulang ang training kasi hindi nya maabot kaagad ang adaptation para sa kanyang pageensayo.

3.  8 Principles of Training Adaptation Specificity

Kung ano ang event ng isang atleta, dapat ang training program nito ay mas angkop sa kanyang pangangailangan. Halimbawa, kung mas ginagamit ang power o lakas, dapat mga exercises na nagdudulot ng nito ang ipagagawa ng isang coach gaya ng weight training, sprints at iba pa.

Kung kailangan naman ay endurance o resisitensya dapat mga aerobic activities ang karamihan ng ipagagawa sa mga atletang matagalan ang event.

Ngunit dapat ang isang traning program ay di lamang nabatay sa strength or endurance lamang. Balanse ang lahat ng ito ngunit nakabatay pa rin ang dami ng isang component sa uri ng event na sasalihan ng atleta.

Bumabalik ang kondisyon ng atleta sa mas mababang antas kung hindi tuloy-tuloy ang training o kaya napahinto siya ng mas matagal. Kung mangyari naman na kahit tama ang overloading at walang pagbabago sa atleta, mangyaring naabot na nya ang plateau o antas na kung saan tila sobra na ang kanyang ensayo. Gaya ng nasabi kanina, dapat may sapat na pahinga sa bawat araw ng ensayo at tuloy-tuloy ang pagsasanay buong taon  pang maiwasan ang pagbalik ng antas ng katawan sa mas mababa nitong kayang gawin.

Variation and Recovery

Kadalasan, may tatlong linggo ang kailangan upang masanay ang grupo ng muscle sa isang trainining program at hindi kaagad aangat sa susunod na linggo. Ang pagbabago ng training program ay dapat ginagawa ng ayon sa panahon upang hindi mangyari ang over training.

Dapat may mga araw na mabigat, katamtaman at magaan ang mga training program upang mabigyan ang katawan ng panahon upang makapagpahinga at maka-adapt sa mas mataas na training program.

Dapat din maging creative ang isang coach sa mga programs na kanyang ginagawa upang maiiwasan ang pagka-boring ng isang atleta habang nagsasanay.

6. Individual Response

may kasabihan tayo “Si Pedro ay iba kay Juan” at ganyan din sa pagtingin natin sa ating mga atleta. May mga atletang mabilis ang improvement at meron din naman na may kabagalan.

Huwag nating ipilit na kaagad gumaling ang isang atleta at ihambing ito sa iba dahil bawat atleta ay may kanyang panahon upang gumaling sa kanyang performance. Maari rin kasing magdepende ang paggaling ng isang atleta sa kanyang edad, genes, pagkain, pahinga, injury at iba pa.

7. Periodization

Ang isang training program ay dapat may kombinasyon ng aerobic (resistensya) at anaerobic (lakas) at paghahanda sa kaisipan. Sa buong taon ng pageensayo ay dapat may panahon ito kung kalian ito ginagamit. Kadalasan, ang pagbabago sa training program ay dapat ginagawa tuwing ika-3 linggo at medyo bababaan ang antas ng isang linggo bago umakyat  sa mas mataas na training cycle.

Ang pagtuturo at pag-master ng teknik ay di dapat ginagawa kung high intensity ang workout kundi sa panahong mas mababa ang intensity halimbawa ilang linggo na lang ang pagitan bago ang laban.

8. Maintenance

Hanggat maari, dapat tuloy ang pag-eensayo sa mas mababang antas pagkatapos ng competition season. Halimbawa, ang antas ng isang exercise ay dapat manatili habang maari namang bawasan ang dami at dalas ng ensayo na ginagawa ng atleta sa isang linggo. Kaya nga para hindi manibago ang atleta sa susunod na season, dapat tuloy-tuloy lang ang ensayo ngunit sa mas mababang antas.
