Her 2009 multi-platinum album Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor features several hit songs that have been used in many movies and TV shows: "That Man" has appeared in DisneyNature's Chimpanzee (narrated by Tim Allen), ABC's Agent Carter (starring Hayley Atwell), and The CW's The Vampire Diaries; "Back It Up" has appeared in ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars and The CW's Beauty and the Beast (starring Kristin Kreuk); and "A Night Like this" has appeared in 2 Days in New York (with Chris Rock) and Playing It Cool (with Topher Grace).

Zehn Jahre ist es her, das die niederländische Sängerin Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw unter dem Namen Caro Emerald mit ihrem Debütalbum Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor durch die Decke ging. Jeder – wirklich Jeder – tanzte zu den Hits Back It Up, A Night Like This und That Man. Überraschend verkaufte sich das Debütalbum im Anschluss mehr als 2 Million mal und erreichte die Sängerin in Großbritannien, Deutschland und Polen die Top-5 der Albumcharts. In ihrem Heimatland schaffte sie es sogar auf Platz 1 und hielt sich satte 176 Wochen in den Charts. Damit wurde ihr Album zu dem am längsten in den Albumcharts vertretene Album und löste Michael Jacksons Album Thriller ab. Es war der große Durchbruch des Electroswings. Am Mittwoch konntet Ihr bereits mit der neuen Single Brass Devil von Parov Stelar wieder einen großartigen Hit dieses Genres genießen – nun ist Emerald mit einem neuen Album zurück und versucht an die Erfolge des Debütalbums anzuschließen. Dabei zeigt sich Emerald auf ihrer neuen Single Wake Up Romeo wieder in Bestform und löst eine spontane Liebe in eine Beziehung um. Ob das der Auserwählte ebenfalls so möchte, bleibt dabei offen. Emerald hatte den Song während der Lockdown-Phase geschrieben, in der sie feststellte, dass sie endlos viel Zeit hatte, um an neuer Musik zu arbeiten. Nach ihrem Debütalbum 2010, dem Nachfolger The Shocking Miss Emerald (2013) und dem Livealbum MO x Caro Emerald By Grandmono (2017) – das sie zusammen mit dem Metropole Orkest eingespielt hat – folgte mit der EP Emerald Island (2017) die letzte Veröffentlichung – bis heute. Somit ist Wake Up Romeo die erste Veröffentlichung, neuer Musik, seit drei Jahren und lässt Emerald dort ansetzen, wo sie mit ihrem 2013er Album aufhörte. Dabei steht bisher noch nicht fest, ob der Song ein erster Vorgeschmack auf ein kommendes, neues Album sein wird oder auf einer weiteren EP erscheint. Mit Wake Up Romeo zeigt uns sie Sängerin, wie sehr wir den wunderbaren Electroswing der Niederländerin vermisst haben.

Dutch pop/jazz singer, born 26 April 1981 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In 2007, Caro Emerald was called upon to cut a demo for producers Jan van Wieringen, David Schreurs and Canadian songwriter Vincent Degiorgio. Caro seized the opportunity and recorded "Back It Up". Following a performance on a local Dutch TV station, the song entered the Dutch singles chart and remained there for 34 weeks. With only one track in the repertoire, David, Vincent, Jan and Caro started working on a full album, inspired by films and music from the 1940s and 1950s.

Second single "A Night Like This" reached #1 on the Dutch singles chart in January 2010. Debut album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor was released in the same week and entered the albums chart at #1; reaching Platinum status within 6 weeks. Overall, the album spent 30 weeks at #1, breaking a record set by Michael Jackson's Thriller, and it sold 260.000 copies within the year in the Netherlands alone. It is IFPI-certified Platinum with sales of over 1.3 million in Europe.

Follow-up album The Shocking Miss Emerald was released in May 2013. The European arts, entertainment and fashion scene of the 1920s-1960s set the stage for this album. Like Caro's debut album, it entered the Dutch albums chart at #1. Both albums broke various sales records in the Netherlands, and Caro and the team received various awards including an MTV EMA Award (Best Dutch/Belgian Act), an EBBA Award, a Goldene Kamera and an Echo Award.

In August 2022, Van der Leeuw announced she had over time become more and more estranged from the persona of Caro Emerald, and felt a certain look and sound were expected from her. She stated she was heading into a new direction for her career, by herself, as The Jordan. Three singles were already released at that point.
