How can wikis be used to hold students accountable during collaborative writing projects?

Student writing at the High School level has been identified as a concern in the academic community. School wide initiatives such as “Writing Across the Curriculum” have been implemented in many schools across the nation including being an initiative for the High School reform movement, High Schools That Work. Today’s students are growing up in a different world influenced by the emerging web 2.0 technologies. These technologies need to be embedded into education to help students increase success in writing.The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the Web 2.0 technology WIKI and see if implementation of a WIKI in a Social Studies classroom helps increase the quantity and quality of student writing.
