APUSH Short Answer Question--Colonial Comparison--2015

Answer (a), (b), and (c).

a) Briefly explain ONE important similarity between the British colonies in the Chesapeake region and the British colonies in New England in the period from 1607 to 1754.

b) Briefly explain ONE important difference between the British colonies in the Chesapeake region and the British colonies in New England in the period from 1607 to 1754.

c) Briefly explain ONE factor that accounts for the difference that you indicated in (b).

a. One important similarity between the British colonies in Chesapeake and the British colonies in New England was the triangular trade running through both of them. Colonies in New England traded raw materials and natural resources to Africa, Africa traded slaves to America, and America traded sugar, and tobacco to New England.

b. One important difference between the two regions was that the Chesapeake colonies were agrarian, and the new England colonies were focused on trade and raw materials as they followed their mother country more than the southern/ middle colonies. This is shown through the triangular trade as well. Even though they were both involved in it, they traded and focused on different markets.

c. One example that accounts for the difference I described in B is explained through how the Chesapeake colonies showed wealth by how many slaves or how much plantation land you owned.
